What this site is

Scope & Sky is an independent publication about buying a first telescope. It is not a retailer. We do not sell telescopes, hold stock, take orders, ship anything or handle warranties, and we have no ability to help with an order placed elsewhere.

Everything here is published for general information. It is not professional advice, and purchasing decisions remain yours.

Accuracy, and its limits

We take accuracy seriously and the whole site is built around making it checkable: every specification links to the manufacturer document it was read from, and every computed figure shows its formula and inputs. That is the standard we hold ourselves to, and the editorial policy sets it out in full.

Even so, manufacturers revise specifications, retailers change listings and prices move constantly. Information here is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind, and we do not guarantee it is complete or current at the moment you read it. Verify anything that matters against the manufacturer and the retailer before you buy.

We have not tested any telescope described on this site and we make no claim about how any individual unit performs. Nothing here is a warranty about any product.

Prices

Prices shown come from an automated data layer and are stamped with the date they were checked. They may be out of date by the time you read them. The price on the retailer’s own page at the moment of purchase is the only one that applies.

Safety

Never point a telescope, a finderscope or binoculars at or near the Sun without a purpose-made solar filter fitted securely over the front of the instrument. Doing so causes permanent and irreversible eye damage instantly, and it can damage the instrument. This applies to every telescope described on this site. Children should not use optical instruments unsupervised.

Intellectual property

The writing, the compiled specification tables and the site design are the property of Slate Mill Group. You may quote briefly with attribution and a link. Republishing substantial portions without permission is not permitted. Product names and trademarks belong to their respective owners and are used here for identification only.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Slate Mill Group is not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of this site or from reliance on the information published here, including any purchasing decision made on the basis of it.
