Privacy Policy

The short version

We do not ask you to create an account, we do not sell data, and the only information you actively give us is whatever you type into the contact form. Analytics and affiliate links involve third parties, and those are described below.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people read and which links they click. It sets cookies and collects the usual page-level information: pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, device type, browser and referring site.

We also record an event when an outbound buy link is clicked. That event carries the product, the merchant and the page it happened on. It records that a click happened, not who made it.

Google’s handling of this data is governed by its own privacy policy. You can opt out across all sites using Google’s browser add-on, and any browser-level tracking protection or ad blocker will prevent the analytics script loading at all.

Affiliate links

Buy buttons here redirect through an on-site address and then to Amazon with our Associates tracking tag attached. Amazon uses cookies to attribute a resulting purchase to this site. What we see back from Amazon is aggregate reporting: totals for items ordered and commissions earned. We do not receive your name, your address, your payment details or a record of what any individual person bought.

Once you land on Amazon you are on their site under their privacy policy, not ours. Our affiliate disclosure explains how the links work.

The contact form

What you type into the contact form is emailed to us and nowhere else. We keep the message for as long as it takes to deal with it, and correspondence about a correction may be kept longer as a record of the change. It is not added to a mailing list, because there is no mailing list, and it is never passed to a third party.

The form includes a hidden field and a timing check to block automated spam. Neither collects anything about you: one is a field a human never fills in, and the other measures how long the page was open before submission.

Product images and prices

Where a product image is shown, it may be served from Amazon’s content delivery network, which means your browser makes a request to Amazon to fetch it. Prices are baked into the page at build time and involve no request from your browser to anyone.

Hosting

This site is hosted by Vercel, which processes standard server request logs including IP addresses as part of delivering the site and protecting it from abuse.

What we do not do

• No accounts, no logins, no profiles.
• No newsletter and no marketing email.
• No selling or sharing of personal data with anyone.
• No advertising network beyond the affiliate links described above.
• No cross-site tracking pixels beyond Google Analytics.

Your choices

You can block or delete cookies in your browser, use tracking protection or an ad blocker, or install Google’s analytics opt-out add-on. None of that stops the site working: every page here is static content and reads fine with every script blocked.

If you have sent us a message and want it deleted, ask and we will delete it.

Children

This is a buying guide written for adults purchasing telescopes, some of them for children. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
